Brand Story Gap: Conversion Landing Page

Spec sample. A conversion landing page for a brand storytelling service targeting founders who lose clients after the first meeting.

Your Potential Client Left That Meeting Ready to Say Yes. Then They Went Back to Your Website.

Your client was looking for one thing that would confirm the decision. But they didn’t find it, and they closed the deal with someone else. Quietly, without telling you why.

Startups lose clients after the first meeting because their websites are built for first impressions, not for decisions. When a potential client returns to confirm they are making the right choice, they look for three things: how you work, proof that it works, and a point of view that sets you apart. When those three things are missing, the decision goes to someone else.

This pattern, and exactly what fills the gap, is detailed in this piece – The Brand Story Gap That Costs Startups Clients.

What Your Potential Client Does After That First Meeting

They go back to your website to confirm one thing: that you are the right choice for their specific situation.

They look for a process they can picture themselves in. A client story that sounds like their problem. A clear point of view that shows you think differently.

Instead, they find your origin story and your product pitch, the same content a first-time visitor reads on day one.

So they move on. No explanation. No second email. They just signed with your competitor, whose product may be weaker than yours, but has strong content on their website.

This connects to a broader pattern I have written about: the gap between what founders mean and what readers understand is almost always just a few missing sentences, but those sentences determine whether someone reaches out or moves on. Read here the full article.

Three Things Your Brand Story Is Missing

It’s rarely a volume problem. Most founders have more to say than their website shows. What’s missing is specific, and it’s almost always the same three things:

Process. What does it actually feel like to work with you? Week one. The first call. How decisions get made. A client who can’t picture this will hesitate, and hesitation kills deals.

Without process content, clients fill the gap with their worst assumption.

Proof. Not a row of testimonials. One specific story. One real client, one real problem, one real result, told in enough detail that the reader thinks: that is my situation.

One precise story does more than ten vague endorsements.

Perspective. What do you believe that most people in your space don’t? A business with a clear point of view signals that someone has thought hard about the work. Without it, you are one of many options.

No perspective means no reason to choose you specifically.

The structural reason this content does not convert is explored in detail here.

How I Work With Founders on This

Before I start writing, I understand the audience, the competitor, and what the founder actually sounds like when they talk about their work without filtering it.

  1. I research who your ideal client is, what problem they are trying to solve, what is stopping them from acting, and what would make them reach out.
  2. I look at what your competitors are saying, and more importantly, what they are not. That is where your strongest positioning lives.
  3. Every founder speaks more sharply about their work than their website shows. I find that version and build around it.
  4. I write content that works at every stage: for the first-time visitor who is still deciding, and for the person who is almost convinced.

What Changes When the Brand Story Works

When the right person lands on your page, and your page is ready for them, four things change:

  • Your website handles the introduction. Fewer calls start from scratch.
  • The people who reach out already understand what working with you looks like. Wrong-fit enquiries drop.
  • More of the work you actually want, with clients who respect the process before it begins.
  • The brand stops convincing. It starts confirming.

The only difference between convincing and confirming is the content that turns visitors into clients.

You Have Built Something That Works. Your Brand Story Should Do the Same

Tell me where your brand story stops. I will tell you what is missing and what it will take to build it.
